University Honors and Scholars programs (UHS) foster an experiential Mines+ education. At Mines, our brand of honors and scholars experiences are student-centered, inclusive communities not confined by GPA or having had access to accelerated courses in high school. Here, we apply interdisciplinary education and an inherent curiosity to explore the world in order to cultivate a signature student experience within and beyond the traditional boundaries of the classroom.
Our mission is to offer academic and cocurricular programming towards degree completion for students seeking opportunities to shape a distinctive pathway that will challenge them, help them grow, build connections, and develop adaptability beyond their technical degrees. Our honors and scholars experiences embolden collaboration across disciplines with diverse people while fostering critical thinking, creativity, leadership, and innovation.
Our partner programs offer opportunities to participate in the National Collegiate Ethics Bowl, as well as engage in curricular and cocurricular opportunities around sustainable energy and humanitarian engineering.
UHS programs develop the professional and interpersonal skills engineers and scientists need, not just to succeed in their professions, but to be lifelong learners and leaders in their communities. Please explore the various pathways below and join UHS, where everyone has a home.
UNIVERSITY HONORS AND SCHOLARS PROGRAMS
Our UHS programs include: interdisciplinary honors pathways with the Thorson First-Year Honors Experience, the Grandey First-Year Honors Experience, the McBride Honors Program in Public Affairs; immersive scholars activities with Undergraduate Research Scholars and the Grand Challenges Scholars Program, in addition to pursuing a pathway in STEM-Education to inspire and lead the next generation of scientists and engineers with our Teach@Mines minor and our new 4+1 non-thesis Master’s degree. UHS is also the home to the office of Nationally Competitive Scholarships where you can find highly sought after scholarships and fellowships that create pathways from Mines to the world.
UHS is the home of High Grade, Mines student-run arts journal (since 1976), and Reuleaux, Mines student-run undergraduate research magazine (since 2018).
